What are allergy drops (S.L.I.T)?

This method is used for patients with allergies to pets, pollen, and dust.
Much like allergy shot extract; sublingual drops or tablets are made up of small amounts of the things you are allergic to.
Drops or tablet is placed under the tongue once a day at home, after the first dose is given successfully in the office.

Who should and should not receive S.L.I.T.?

Those who cannot tolerate allergy shots or who do not have time to comply with the injection schedule SHOULD.
Those patients with certain GI disorders, specifically EOE should NOT.
Those patients who are pregnant or who may become pregnant will need to discuss with their doctor whether to start/continue therapy.

Is sublingual therapy covered by insurance?

Yes, sublingual tablets used for Timothy grass and Ragweed pollen are covered by insurance.
No, sublingual drops have yet to be approved for coverage by insurance. However, the safety and efficacy has been proven in Europe for over 30 years and is considered a viable alternative to allergy shots.

What can I expect?

The average treatment time for S.L.I.T. patients is 3-5 years, an office visit will be required every 3 month to receive refills and follow improvement.
Normal local reactions of mouth, tongue, and throat irritation and itching are to be expected.

The cost of treatment is $175 for the first vial and $300 when a second vial is required.
